These pictures are from the Dethklok, Mastodon, Converge, High On Fire show at Hammerstein Ballroom on 10/30/09. I’ve been slacking in putting photos up. I have a TON of Fall Out Boy from Harpers Ferry, Lowell MA and MSG that I have to put up, and of course Metallica from last weekend. I’ll get to them…eventually.

Anyway, so I had tickets to both shows; the 29th and the 30th, but Ginette and Kevin asked Adam and I to dinner on the 29th as a thank you for helping out with their wedding. I was going to drive in (mistake #1), park by Hammerstein, take the subway to dinner, then leave to get to the show in time to see Dethklok. Only the firsts 3 parts of that sentence happened. Dinner was great!! It was at Volare and the food was amazing. I had friend calamari and then since the owner is family friend’s of Ginette, he gave us great wine and made me Chicken Francese (even though it wasn’t on the menu). It was excellent. I was having such a good time that I decided to just go see Dethklok the next day. Friends are more important than a silly concert (esp when you have tickets to the next night) .

I went back to Hammerstein after we left the restaurant bc thats where my car was, at the sketchiest of car parking places I might add. The place was almost empty by the time I got to Hammerstein, so I asked the door guy if I could just go in and get some merch. I wanted a Dethalbum II vinyl and DID NOT want to carry that in a crowd the next day. So I got the album and a tour t-shirt. Then on my way to the parking garage, I see the Dethbus!! I have to get a picture of this thing so I stop and get out my camera. Next thing I know Mr. Brendon Small is walking out of Hammerstein and going to the bus. Thank goodness for those glasses of wine bc somehow I found the chutzpah to ask him for a picture! A nice kid took 2 pics for me and they came out pretty good. He was super nice to take the time out to talk to me for a minute although I have no idea what I said. (Didnt help that I skipped out on the show either.) Then I left with a big, dorky smile and weak knees. Oh yea, and I saw Eugene Mirman there too.

Next night I took the train in, got there a few hours early, stood in line and then got front freaking row/to the right. I’ve been lucky like that recently 2 FOB shows and Dethklok, it’s the only way to see a show. haha Great view (obviously) and no real shoving. Plus I’m sorry for anyone at the show, but I’ve been to more aggressive FOB shows than that Dethklok show, seriously. But that was fine by me. I don’t much care for crowd-surfers. I didn’t really like High on Fire. Converge was too jumpy for me and I couldn’t figure out what the guy was saying. Mastodon was really, really good. (I have a bunch of pics of them, but didn’t make an album yet). I had never really listened to them before, but I like ‘em.

Then Dethklok came on.  Just Awesome. Everything I would have expected from a Dethklok show in all its ridiculousness. Brendon’s guitar skills are amazing. He is so good. (That’s also why I wanted to be up close I wanted to see him and Beller play). Watching him “sing” was weirdly cool too. They played great songs, including my new favorite, “Bloodlines.”  I sung along like a dork, but so did everyone else. The show was fantastically silly. This coming from the girl who saw the Monkees on tour, in like ’89 or something. (Only to find out years later that Michael Nesmith was not a part of that tour. That green hat wearing hottie was my fav. And yes I’m still a little bitter). Annnnyway. I didn’t want the show to end, it did though, but not before the house lights came on and Brendon did the voices of Nathan, Pickles and Skwisgaar. So weird to see that. I was a little upset that he said (in Nathan’s voice) that the show was a sausage fest. I was next to at least 2 other girls in the front row, but whatev. The majority of concert-goers were dudes, so I’ll give him that, but us ladies were there! He also called out Benjamin. Oh yea, that’s H. Jon Benjamin! who I saw with David Cross on my way out. I love that guy. The show was ridiculous and I can’t wait until the next Dethklok related thing in NYC (or Long Island – come play the Crazy Donkey. haha.)

So it’s official. Dethklok has surpassed Fall Out Boy for the number one spot on my list. Sorry FOB, even though you did kind of thank me in your liner notes. http://twitpic.com/ptene/full

Here are some pictures from the July 9th show of Brendon Small with the Paul Green School of Rock-All Stars, at Santo’s Party House on Lafayette Street in the city. The show was amazing. The kids are all so talented it’s insane. Makes me feel pathetic that I still haven’t learned a thing about guitar. I might see if I can teach myself some stuff, or take up my brother on his years old offer to teach me (although that was for the bass). Anyway, the kids were fantastic, Brendon Small was so great. He plays so fast and being right in front I could really see how talented he is. Crazy. You could tell the kids and the audience had a blast. They played Dethklok songs, as well as some covers, which I can’t remember at the moment. But they were great, whatever they were. Also Eugene Mirman was there to introduce Brendon and Jon Schepp was there too! This pic is me being super nervous, but managing to ask him for a picture. He was really nice and waited while the kid with my camera learned how to take photos. The other pic I found and you can see me in the front and my cheek tells you I was smiling like an idiot. Must have been that cowbell.

Now that it’s so sunny and nice out, I definitely need to get the car washed and take some new photos. All I have is this one photo from the eBay ad I found it in. Yes, I found my most favorite possession on eBay. I also need to send a photo of my license plate to Newsday, get it published in theSunday lifestyles section. HRTBRKHR is so much cooler than the ones I’ve seen. And those other folks don’t have the same story as I do. “Oh, I used to play roller derby and my name was Heart Break-Her.” <3

Speaking of derby, I have been missing it lately. Don’t know if it’s because I’ve been going to the gym and being more active, so I might be better at skating or because I went to the bout last weekend. I got to hangout with a bunch of old peeps and cheered like a lunatic with Trixie Timebomb and T-Rancid. More cowbell!! Tearing up after watching the Whip It trailer didn’t help either. Maybe I’ll volunteer, while I have time. I’d just have to find, and dust off, my skates and knee pads. I loved those knee pads, just like little pillows. Sort of.

Currently icing down my sunburned shoulder. I went to Warped Tour today with Rob, for about 3 hours. Didn’t get too badly roasted, just enough to sting. Saw 3oh!3, and Saosin, also heard some Less Than Jake. Missed Senses Fail, Alexisonfire and Underoath. There weren’t many other bands I wanted to see though. I would have liked to see InnerPartySystem, but they went on at 8:15 and I wasn’t sticking around that long. Was supposed to go to Ginette’s and bust her chops about her wedding plans. But she worked at the restaurant all day and is calling it an early night. It was fun helping her look at limos and old cars this week. I, personally, would rent a red Dodge Viper, old school Shelby Mustang with racing stripes, or blue ’59 Caddy Eldorado. Something fun. Maybe even the Bat Mobile! The Michael Keaton one, not the tv one or that stupid Tumbler from the latest Batman. I know people like the new one, but I prefer sleek and powerful, to clunky.

I need some dinner.

Things I’m currently very excited about!

Seeing Brendon Small twice in 2 days in April, with the bro in New York and then April and Steve in NJ! Then Fall Out Boy in Boston.  Plus I’ll see some Boston friends and get Brown Sugar cafe. My favorite food in the world. My last request meal would be from there. It’d be  Spring Rolls and Pineapple Fried Rice with Brown Rice (no tomato).
